Salvation
So what is this thing we Christians call 'Salvation' - what does it mean 'to be saved' - and why would you need it?
The obvious question of course is 'saved from what'? I'll attempt to explain.
The Bible - is actually a collection of 66 books - [which have proved to be completely accurate in terms of things they have prophesied that have subsequently happened]. This collection of books is unlike any other in the world.in that their content was 'prompted' into the hearts of the various writers by the Spirit of God.
In broad terms: - Amongst other things it informs us that God is pure and Holy and that we are not - that He created us to have a relationship with Him but we have chosen to ignore Him - He gave us guidlines - a set of 10 simple rules that are the blueprint for a perfect society.
You have broken some - if not most - of them. . . . And that's a certainty!
I can say this because we all have - You, me, your father, mother, brothers, sisters, everyone! We are all sinners.
[See 10 Commandments button]
For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God.[Romans Ch3 v 23]
There is none righteous - no not one! [Romans Ch3 v10]
These are just two of many verses which inform us of our 'state' in God's eyes. God is pure and holy and totally just and no sin can come into His presence.
When you consider - He made you, me, this world and all it contains. He made the Sun,Moon and Stars the entire Universe. And there we are trying to 'sus Him out' with our puny intellect!
Could you make one single blade of grass and make it grow?
The bible plainly tells us that the evidence for creation is all around us - all you have to do is open your eyes. If you believe in Darwin's 'Theory of Evolution' then you are deceived. There is actually not one single shred of concrete 'evolutionary' evidence - that actually stands up on its own.
And how is it that a 'theory' is now taught in educational establishments worldwide - as a fact? Think about that - do you know of any other unproven theories that are taught as fact?
Evolution is a religion - you have to believe in it by 'faith'.because it most certainly is not proven. The great 'convenience' of evolution is that it removes God from the picture - and if you remove God - then you remove accountability. And if there is no ultimate accountability then your conscience can remain dead to your sins - you can basically do what you like and feel ok about. BIG MISTAKE!
When God created the first human beings they are recorded as living to what we consider vast ages - over 900 years in some instances.
i used to laugh at the very idea until I had a life changing encounter with The Lord Jesus Christ - . - Since then I have come to understand many things.
God created us to have fellowship with Him - to interact on a personal basis with Him. In Genesis - the first book of the bible - the creation of mankind is described. The picture painted is of a very close relationship between God and His creation. It says God used to come down 'and walk in the garden' of Eden - with them.
There was closeness between God and man,who was created in His image.
But something happened that changed all that.
At that time there was no disease, decay or death. The whole of God's creation was 'good'. A totally symbiotic balance. Everything functioning perfectly in relation to everything else. Paradise!
They did not have to work other than 'tending' the garden. Their food was all around them fresh and delicious - the climate was warm with no rain - they lived naked - and the first thing God ever said to them was
"Go and make love" [Be fruitful and multiply].
Their existence was so far removed from the way we now live as to be almost impossible for us to imagine. No fear - no paranoia - no bills - no stress. Just an idyllic life interacting with God and probably playing with the animals in the sunshine.
The bible says Adam was a full grown man when he was created - and if you think about it - he must have been. Human babies are just so helpless - totally dependant upon their mothers. So God created the first man full grown - with the intention that he would live forever.
When Adam and Eve disobeyed God the result was catastrophic. They alowed 'sin' into the world - and no sin can come into the presence of God who is completely pure and holy.
God had warned Adam that if he ate the fruit of a particular tree he would 'surely die'. There were no other rules
"You shall not eat from the tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil"
With the exception of that one command, they were free to do whatever they desired in peace, happiness and security. INSTEAD THEY CHOSE TO DISOBEY GOD.
And that disobedience bought sin into the world. Their eyes were 'opened'
and they became aware of things God had not intended them to know.
They had knowledge of good and evil. They left the state of perfection. and innocence, and opened themselves up to forces they had no control over.
From that point on they began the process of death.- growing old - decaying - being susceptible to disease - in fact all the things that now assail us.
Initially they lived to what we now consider to be vast ages.
Medical science says it doesn't know why we grow old and die. We have everything in our bodies to be self perpetuating - if you cut yourself it will heal up - things repair.
But the bible tells us - 'The wages of sin is death' - the result of this condition seperates us from God, and brings about death in our physical bodies.
Sin is a disease of the spirit - think of it like a spiritual 'aids' - and as we all came from Adam + Eve - - it has been passed on down through the generations. We are all contaminated with it.
It separates us from God. This is now the dilemma of man. He is separated from his creator through sin. We are born in this condition, because it has passed down through our bloodlines. There is nothing we can do that impresses God.
There is nothing we can do to make ourselves right with Him.
Our condition means that when we die - we cannot go to be with Him because our sinful state could not exist in the presence of His holiness.
Not only that - we are also going to be judged against His laws and commandments.
Not one of us will prove to have kept them.
We are all in a real dilemma - if you are honest you know you have done wrong stuff and God's judgement will be totally just.
We are all in line for what we deserve.
