As of 26th April 2008 we are happy to report that the number of members of Hope of Life Ministries in Hwange, Zimbabwe, has grown from around 140 last August to nearly 1,000. Praise God!
This is a classic case of church growth in the face of adversity. And the adversity is extreme at this present time.
Inflation is now the highest in the world, running at nearly 2,000,%. A loaf of bread in Zimbabwe will cost you 10,000,000 Zim dollars! That is if you can find one. There is no food at all in the shops - no petrol in the service stations. People are literally starving.
We send what we can each month but it is a drop in the ocean. Please, if you can give anything do so. It gets straight there into the hands of those that need it, and who will distribute what little they can get fairly.
We need to pray and pray and then pray some more.
But for now, let's give God thanks for those who are finding salvation as a direct result of the depravation they are facing.

November 2008 - There is now no food, water or petrol in the Hwange area.
The people are only survivng there because two members of the church fellowship have passports and are able to go into Botswana and buy food with the money we send over.
Since the water stopped pumping they now have to go 1.5 kilometres and carry it back in buckets. Disease is widespread in the country - especially in the built up areas - and there are now no proper toilet facilities in the settlements. Many of which house hundreds of people.
In many of the rural areas people are dying of starvation and trying to dig up roots to survive.
Inflation is running at over 2,000,000% - that is so high as to be impossible to keep up with. Zimbawean currency is totally worthless and any trade is done in Botswanan Pulas or US dollars, or Rand.
Please pray for them and if you are able, make a donation to us to send out to them.
We are hoping to be able to go back to Zimbabwe in the spring, and would like to do so with adequate funds to address the immediate issues.
January 2009 - Cholera is now rampaging through the country and many people are dying - the food shortages are getting worse with each passing week and many children are suffering from malnutrition.
These people are in a situation not of their own making, and they desperately need our help. Please give what you can.
March 2009 Despite the recent 'power sharing' agreement, basic commodities are still not available over the vast majority of the country. Food, petrol or medicines. Most hospitals are totally devoid of any drugs, and struggling to give patients even basic care. The situation remains dire, with the Cholera epedemic spreading rapidly. Please help!
Zimbabwe: At last things seem to be improving somewhat - in that there is now food in the shops again - and petrol in the garages - albeit incredibly expensive. Nobody uses Zim currency at all as it is totally worthless. Trading is done in U.S.Dollars - South African Rand or Botswananian Pulas.
Medical facilities are still sparse and drugs in short supply, if at all available.
Erika and I are hoping to go out there for a month in August - but we need financial help. If you can help at all, please contact us.
January 2010 By no means could it be said that things are ok in Zim - but there continues to be a steady trickle of improvement, with the basic neccesities being available, albeit at incredibly inflated prices.
There are also now some basic medical facilities again - but I emphasise - they are of a very basic nature. We were unable to get out to Zimbabwe last year, due to my being hospitalised in June for 10 days -but we are determined to get there this year and take as much medicine as we can carry.
We really need some financial backing. Please help these desperate brothers and sisters.
July 2010 - We are very happy to report that Pastor Bigboy has been able to purchase a building plot with money sent out to him, and that the building of a permamnent home for him and his family will soon begin. It will be done 'piecemeal' - as and when we can send funds out there. He and his family were recently turned out of their rented home when the owner decide he wanted it back. There is no such thing as security of tenure in Zimbabwe. They are at present 'scattered' around Victoria Falls - staying with different church members.
We need to get their house built as soon as possible.
We would ask for your kind assistance and donations to facilitate this end. His wife Sibonginkosi, has just given birth to a new baby daughter. They now have 5 children, yet continue to minister and preach the gospel whilst looking after the 7 churches Bigboy has planted.
Over a thousand souls now saved, thanks to the dedication of this man and his team of pastors. All unpaid. All surviving on whatever we can manage to send out to them. Please help by sending a donation.
We are pleased to announce that we are flying out to Zimbabwe on 1st August for one month. We shall be endevouring to help set up a chicken breeding unit for them - and also a bicycle repair / sales enterprise.
We desperately need funding for this venture - we have bought the airline tickets but as yet have no money for the equipment etc - please help!
Things are improving slowly - yet still compared to how we live, these people are existing in abject poverty. If you are unable to contribute financially - please pray.
